Valentine's Day 2011

This year we decided to start a new tradition with the kiddos.  Chris and I have been out on Valentine's Day a couple of times in our marriage, and we usually end up asking, "Why did we go out on Valentine's Day?"  We aren't big into crowds, so we usually celebrate Valentine's the weekend after.  So with all of that out of the way, we decided that I would take Josiah out, and he would take Sophie out.  If you look at our February Album, you can see we got all dressed up for this special date.  Chris and Josiah got dressed, and I took Sophie so we could get dressed.  The boys came to the bedroom door and knocked to ask us out on a date.  Chris explained to Josiah the importance of asking the girl go to out, and I explained to Sophie how the boy needs to come and get her at the door.  Chris and I loaded our dates into the car and each headed to our place of dining.  Josiah asked me if I wanted to go to IHOPs (his way of saying IHOP), and Chris asked Sophie to go to Wen-Days with him (his way of saying Wendy's).  Smile  On our way to IHOP, I had a moment of sadness....here we are starting a tradition and then I realized that one day Josiah will be old enough to have a girlfriend, and he might be taking her out on Valentine's Day instead of me.  Then I got over my sadness and realized that the whole point of starting this tradition was to train him on how to treat a young lady.  We had LOTS of fun eating our pancakes and french toast in our dress up clothes.  We actually got quite a few compliments--OK, so Josiah got quite a few compliments on how cute he looked in his suit.  From what Chris said, Sophie got a lot of compliments, too.  At the end of our meal, I gave Josiah the bill and slipped him the money, so he could pay for our dinner.  We talked about the importance of paying for a lady's meal--especially if he asked her out on a date.  Then we went back to the table so he could leave a tip for the waitress.

We both really enjoyed our date night, and I'm so thankful that God laid it on our hearts to start this tradition.  Everyday seems like Valentine's Day around here--I'm so thankful that I have a husband that shows he loves me all the time instead of just one day out of the year--so not going out wasn't that big of a deal.  We pray that Josiah and Sophie will show their spouse the same kind of love and in turn God will lead them to someone who will do the same.

Well, that is it for our Valentine's Day celebration.  I'm so thankful that God has blessed me with a loving husband and two wonderful children to love.
